Race Safety Setup
At Rømø Motor Festival, safety is our top priority. We have a comprehensive safety organization in place to ensure the wellbeing of all participants, crew, and spectators.
1. Safety Organization
The race safety operation is led by the Race Director in close cooperation with the Chief Medical Officer (Doctor). All safety and emergency interventions are coordinated through Race Control (Race Directors), which maintains constant radio communication with marshals, medical teams, the Doctor, Fire Fighters, and external emergency services.
2. Track Safety Personnel
Marshals
- Strategically positioned along the track, at the end of the track, and in the Pit Area
- Trained in incident reporting, first response, and fire suppression
- Equipped with fire extinguishers, fire blankets, gloves, and communication radios
- Responsible for initial scene protection and assisting rescue personnel
Rescue Teams
- Professional Fire Fighters with a fully equipped rescue vehicle
- Professional Paramedics with a fully equipped ambulance positioned at the trackside, approximately 50 meters from the drag strip
- Professional Doctor (CMO) located close to the starting line and Pit Area, approximately 75 meters from the Rescue Team area
- Responsible for scene safety, fire control, medical response, and driver/rider assistance

5. Incident Handling Scenarios
Scenario A: On-Track Incident – No Hospital Transport Required
A driver loses control, driver/rider is ejected from the vehicle.
- Marshals immediately notify Race Control.
- Marshals reach the scene and secure it, shielding the injured driver/rider with fire blankets.
- The Ambulance and Fire Engine are dispatched to the scene.
- Fire risk is assessed and controlled.
- All race activities are stopped; all participants and crew members must remain in the Pit Area.
- All photographers must stay in the Pit Area; all drones must be landed immediately.
- The Speaker announces that an accident has occurred and requests calm while further information follows.
- The Doctor performs an on-site medical assessment (vital signs, consciousness, orientation, pain assessment).
- If injuries are assessed as minor, the driver is transported to the Medical Center (Behandlertelt) for treatment and observation.
- If hospital evaluation is required, the local emergency medical service is contacted for transport.
- After medical clearance by the Doctor, the driver is either released or withdrawn from the race.
- The race may resume once the track is declared safe by Race Control.
Scenario B: Serious Accident – Hospital Transport Required
- Marshals immediately notify Race Control.
- Marshals secure the scene and shield the injured driver with fire blankets.
- The Ambulance and Fire Engine are dispatched immediately.
- Fire risk is assessed and controlled.

- First medical response is initiated by paramedics.
- The driver is carefully extricated using approved rescue techniques and fully immobilized.
- The Doctor conducts an initial medical assessment at the vehicle or immediately after extrication.
Transport Decision
- If injuries are serious but stable, the driver is transported by ambulance to the designated hospital, escorted if required by Police or Highway Patrol.
- If injuries are critical or time-sensitive (e.g. head injury, spinal trauma, internal bleeding), the Doctor alerts AMK Vagtcentralen Region Syddanmark to activate medical helicopter transport.
- Race Control and the Chief Medical Officer coordinate hospital notification and transport routes.
- The incident area is cleaned and inspected before any race restart.
- All Track Safety Personnel must be back in position before the track can be declared safe.
- The race may resume once the track is declared safe by Race Control.
6. Communication and Coordination
- Continuous radio communication between Race Control, marshals, medical teams, fire services, and emergency responders
- Pre-event coordination with local hospitals, ambulance services, police, and air rescue services
